The pelvis & pelvic floor in the saddle

Intensive workshop "The pelvis & pelvic floor in the saddle"

with Sarah Schmieder

03.-04.08.2024

In this 2-day workshop, we will take a very intensive and detailed look at the anatomy and functions of your pelvis and your pelvic floor in particular.

With a lot of anatomy in motion, great and easy-to-implement exercises and, of course, lots of fun, we improve our riding.

We answer questions such as:

  • What is the pelvic floor and why is it so important for us riders?
  • What exactly is our hip joint and how does it move?
  • Is incontinence a taboo subject for female riders?
  • Is there such a thing as a pelvic floor aid for riding? How useful is it?
  • Which muscles in the pelvis are important?
  • How can I increase my pelvic mobility?
  • Pelvic floor and core muscles - how are they connected? And how can the whole thing improve my aids in the passage, for example?
  • Abdominal wall weakness/rectus diastasis - how does this affect our riding position?
  • Psychosomatics and the pelvic floor - how are they connected?

We look at these and other questions.

An important part of this workshop will also be many movement units on the stool and the mat.

Here you get the opportunity to feel and perceive a lot. So that you can put what you have heard and learned into practice on your horse.

The sessions on the mat take place (weather permitting) in the beautiful Spanish countryside in the middle of the herd of mares of the wonderful La Perla Lusitanos.

In addition to anatomy, you can expect targeted biotensegral training with exercises to improve your posture. These consist of fascia training, pelvic floor training, elements from yoga, Pilates and relaxation training, as well as exercises from functional training and osteopathy.

17:00 - approx. 19:30 Introduction "Pelvis and the pelvic floor in the saddle" with Sarah Schmieder

The pelvic floor plays a crucial role for you as a rider, your seat and communication with your partner horse.

As the central muscle tissue in the pelvic area, the pelvic floor supports the stability of your torso and the alignment of your pelvis. It is also an essential safety system when riding.

By using your pelvic floor in a targeted way, you can send subtle aids to your horse. A dynamic pelvic floor allows you to precisely control and vary your hip movements, which refines communication with your horse and improves understanding between you.

Overall, conscious training and targeted activation/relaxation of the pelvic floor can make a big difference to your seat, your balance and the quality of your connection to the horse.
Your horse will also benefit from this, as tight riding legs and a crooked seat that doesn't swing with the movement have a negative effect on your horse's muscles and ability to move.
